Hotel Tonihof, originally a forest lodge, was named after Saint Antonius, surely one of the most popular saints all over the world. He is mostly known as the patron saint for lost property, while his various other responsibilities are less known: patron of Lisbon, Padua and other cities, protector of the poor, of lovers, marriage, wives and children, bakers, miners, swineherds, travellers, horses and donkeys.
He is also helpful with fertility problems, devilish powers, fever, plague and cattle plague, shipwreck and war atrocities, regaining lost property, childbirth, ageing and successful harvests.
All the same, he was no Bavarian!
He was born the child of wealthy parents in Lisbon around 1195 and died near Padua on June 13th, 1231, while visiting the nuns of Arcella!
Now, whether you believe in Saint Antonius (our Toni) or not: you will certainly be very well taken care of at the Tonihof!
Visitors interested in handcrafted works representing the history of other popular saints in our country might want to read the Heiligenlexikon (Encyclopedia of Saints), the source of most of our above information.
